Library

Borrowing privileges are extended to all currently registered students, faculty and staff of St. Peter’s College and the members of the monastic community of St. Peter’s Abbey.

Other users are eligible for borrowing privileges upon completing an application form at the circulation desk.

All library users need a valid St. Peter’s Library borrower’s card to check out any materials from the Library.  A card may be obtained at the circulation desk from the Library staff.

In the case of St. Peter’s College students, your student ID card is also your library card.  Please present it to the library staff whenever you want to borrow materials.

Lost or stolen student ID or library cards should be reported to the Library immediately to protect against unauthorized borrowing. 

Books may circulate for three weeks unless otherwise specified.  All borrowers are guaranteed a loan period of seven days, after which the item may be recalled by another borrower.  Renewals are permitted unless a hold has been placed on the book.  To obtain a renewal, bring the book to the circulation desk.

JOURNALS/PERIODICALS:  Current issues are on the shelves and are NOT to be removed from the Library without special permission.  Bound periodicals may circulate for one week and are catalogued to the Library of Congress system and are located in the regular stacks. 

REFERENCE COLLECTION:  This collection is located at the east end of the main floor of the Library and contains materials such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, and other resources covering a wide variety of topics.  These shelves are arranged by Library of Congress numbers like the regular stacks.  Use of reference books is restricted to the Library.

RESERVE MATERIALS:  Items in the reserve collection are materials faculty members have requested be put on short-term loan or for in-library use only.  Reserve materials are located at the circulation desk.  Please ask the Library staff for assistance in locating these materials.

AUDIO/VISUAL COLLECTION:  DVDs, CDs, and other media circulate for three weeks.

SZUMIGALSKI COLLECTION:  Books from this collection, located on the main floor of the library, are non-circulating and must be used in the library.

FICTION CORNER:  Located on the main floor, this small collection features various genres including:  classic and contemporary science fiction and fantasy novels, mysteries, westerns and best sellers.  These books may be borrowed for three weeks.

General

When library materials are borrowed, the due date is stamped in the back of the book.  Books not returned by the due date will be assessed a fine of $0.10 per day.

Overdue Reserve and Recalled Materials

Borrowers who fail to return recalled materials are subject to a fine assessed at a rate of $1.00 per day to a maximum of $25 per item.

NOTE:  There is a fine threshold of $50.  When fines exceed this amount, borrowing privileges will be suspended until the fines are paid. 

Damage to, or loss of, materials must be reported to the Library.  The borrower is responsible for the cost of replacement plus a non-refundable $20 processing fee.
