David Carpenter Wins Gold
David Carpenter's collection of novellas and short stories, Welcome to Canada, has just won the IPPY (Independent Publishers of North America) gold medal for regional fiction (Western Canada). The award was handed out in New York on May 25th. Congratulations David!
David will be instructing a St. Peter's College Summer Workshop on Short Stories. This course is designed for writers who intend to submit their work for publication and who are ready to learn more about their craft. He will focus on openings, plot, dialogue, and how to bring characters to life within the confines of a paragraph or two. Students who participate in this workshop should submit a brief character sketch from one of their short story manuscripts. David will use these sketches as a point of departure for a discussion of the techniques of short story writing. During the last two days of the workshop, David will also make himself available for one-on-one discussions with the writers.
