Province Invests $3 Million in St. Peter’s College

The Saskatchewan Government announced today that $3 Million will be invested in St. Peter's College in Muenster in support of enhancements to the learning environment and infrastructure of the College.  "St. Peter's College has shown a vision about growing...building on ambition and success," said, Honourable Rob Norris, Minister of Advanced Learning, Employment and Labour at a news conference held today at the College.  He further added, "the plan is impressive based on proven track record and proven community support."

"The funding will be used to support a number of new and existing programs and partnerships with the goal of enhancing the learning environment," said Glen Kobussen, Special Advisor to the St. Peter's College Board of Governors.  An example is the recent partnership between St. Peter's College and the Edwards School of Business to deliver a number of business programs.  Kobussen said, "The College has been working hard to develop private-public partnerships that will ensure the availability of top-quality education and facilities to the people of Saskatchewan."

"The $3 million provincial investment, coupled with donations from alumni, business partners and friends of the College, will allow the College to renovate its buildings to meet the needs of our future students and the community.  It will allow students access to world class post-secondary education and state-of the-art classrooms, technology and laboratories," said Rob Harasymchuk, St. Peter's College President.  "These enhancements will attract students locally, provincially and even internationally and will have a significant economic impact on the region," said Harasymchuk.

To help Saskatchewan and Canada meet the increasing demand for a well-educated and leading workforce, the College launched a $15 million capital plan in September 2008 to increase the accessibility of university education through growing programs and enhancing facilities.

"We are grateful for the Province's investment; it will help us continue to stay at the forefront of post-secondary education while maintaining our traditions of service and quality to the people of Saskatchewan," Harasymchuk said.  "On behalf of the College community and our future students we thank the government for their support and its acknowledgement of St. Peter's College's tradition of excellence in education and forward planning."

Attending the event were Minister Rob Norris, Minister of Social Services, Donna Harpauer, Humboldt Deputy Mayor Rob Muench, St. Peter's College Board Co-Chair Fr. Demetrius Wasylyniuk, OSB, College special advisor to the Board, Glen Kobussen and College President Rob Harasymchuk.  College Director of Development Lisa Laskowski was emcee for the event.

St. Peter's College is affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan and offers classes in Arts and Science, Business and Kinesiology.  Many students attend St. Peter's to fulfill the entry requirements to colleges such as Medicine, Law, Nutrition, Pharmacy, and Education.  St. Peter's College is also an Edwards School of Business Campus offering the 1st year of the Bachelor of Commerce Degree, the ESB Business Administration Certificate and to be launched in September, the International Business Administration Certificate.
