Is there a story you’ve always longed to tell? Something you just can’t get out of your mind – a character, an event, a setting? Whatever your reasons, if you feel inspired to begin a novel, this course would be great way to kick things into action and begin your journey.
Class Limit: 12
Eligibility:
Anyone wishing to work on a novel. Any age level. While this retreat-style course is perfect for the first-time novelist, it is also entirely suitable for those more experienced writers who wish to kick-start a new project.
Course Topics:
Getting started – entry points; orienting the reader and establishing the world of the novel; point of view; scene, description, exposition, transitions; action; dialogue; character; conflict; writing that is alive to the senses; movement and dramatic structure; revision plans; writing a novel while living a busy life.
Date/Time:
This retreat-style course spans five days (Mon. July 27 – Fri. July 31). Students will meet for two-hour seminars each day (10 a.m. to noon). The rest of the time is reserved for your own writing and exploration. (One-on-one meetings with the instructor are available on request.)
